Learn Lampwork

Learn Lampwork

Curious about lampwork glass beadmaking? I offer hands-on lampwork instruction through private and small-group studio sessions, tailored to your experience level and interests.

These sessions are not scheduled classes or workshops, they’re personalized learning experiences designed to give you focused time at the torch in a real working studio.

What Is Lampwork?

Lampwork is the process of melting glass over a torch and shaping it using hand movement, tools, and gravity. It’s an ancient craft with thousands of years of history, and a deeply tactile, meditative way to work with colour, heat, and form.

How Learning Sessions Work

Lampwork sessions are offered by private booking and may be:

  • One-on-one instruction
  • Small groups (friends, family, or creative partners)

Each session is customized based on:

  • Your experience level
  • What you’re curious to learn
  • The amount of time available

Sessions may cover fundamentals, technique refinement, or guided project work, depending on your goals.

Who These Sessions Are For

Learning sessions are a good fit if you:

  • Are brand new and want an introduction to lampwork
  • Have some experience and want focused guidance
  • Want to try lampworking in a supportive, low-pressure environment

No prior glass experience is required for beginner sessions.

Safety & Studio Guidelines

All sessions take place in my appointment-only studio at 618 ARTlington Studios in Winnipeg. The building is not open to the public.

For safety, participants must secure hair, wear didymium safety glasses (provided), avoid loose clothing or long sleeves, have non-synthetic nails, and wear closed-toe shoes.

Lampworking involves open flame, high heat, and specialized equipment. For everyone’s safety, all learning sessions begin with observation, discussion, and instruction before any hands-on torch time.

Time at the torch is not guaranteed and is assessed on an individual basis. This allows me to ensure that participants:

  • Can follow instructions clearly
  • Are comfortable working safely in the studio environment
  • Do not pose a risk to themselves or others

If at any point a participant is unable to follow safety guidelines, becomes disruptive, or creates an unsafe situation, they may be asked to step away from the torch or leave the session early. This is solely to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment for lesson participants as well as other artists in the building.
